Seen from the side, the body of this fish has a normal shape, from above, the fish's shape is best categorized as compact. The head is more or less straight. The eyes are normally shaped and are symmetrical. The fish has one lateral line, one dorsal fin and one anal fin. There are ten spines and 14 to 16 fin rays on the dorsal fin and three spines and 11 to 13 fin rays on the anal fin.
